I suspect someone is eavesdropping on me – What should I do?
Above all, you should remain vigilant, but do not go to extremes. You can take a close look at the surrounding objects in your immediate environment to try, as far as possible, to neutralise the eavesdropping yourself. Discretion is recommended so as not to ‘scare off’ the spy and to enable you to identify and locate the source of the data leak.

In an environment where eavesdroppers may be present, full communication hygiene should be maintained. As far as possible, conversations on sensitive topics that could be the target of possible eavesdroppers should be avoided. It is also important not to betray one’s suspicions by behaviour. By the same token, one should not talk about one’s concerns in rooms that one is not sure are secure. Without knowing what technology the eavesdropper is using, it may not be possible to neutralise the threat with a single technical measure intended, at least in principle, to ensure information security.
It’s not just rooms that can be bugged
It is important to remember that not only rooms can be bugged, but vehicles as well. The rules of procedure in a room or vehicle are the same – as described in the previous paragraph. In vehicles, it is possible to use a device which, in addition to the eavesdropping function, also has a GPS location function. On the other hand, if there is a likelihood that the source of the leak is a telephone, the wisest course of action is to at least temporarily get another camera and number. You should also not use a suspicious phone to contact an investigator or other eavesdropping specialist.

If the background check and the investigation you have carried out yourself do not give you certainty, moreover, if you are still accompanied by the thought ‘someone is eavesdropping on me’, consider referring the matter to professionals who will carry out a full-scale anti-tapping check.
